How To Know About Your Clothing Style

The first thing to know and understand is that dress style is, whether we like it or not, an important means of communication. Without knowing a person or even speaking to them, the first information we receive from them is their way of dressing. Even the claimed absence of style is a style in itself and tells something of a personality.

‍ In this article by Albeli, I’m still going to try to give you as complete a topo as possible on the mysteries of clothing style. You will discover a vision of style, and its history, as well as practical advice to adopt on a daily basis to find and cultivate your own. Hang on, let’s go!

What is style?

Let’s start at the beginning: what is style? Style is both: the set of someone’s tastes, their ways of being, their way of dressing, combing their hair and of behaving; but also the quality of the one that has original aesthetic characteristics.

What we learn here is that style is not only linked to clothing. It is a whole which brings together a set of aesthetic and behavioural factors, but which is also the reflection of individuality. That’s good, that’s exactly how we think about fashion.

The search for individuality through clothing style

Bring on the youth! A little over a century and a half later, at the very beginning of the 1960s; a decade that completely revolutionised fashion, and society as a whole.

For the first time in the history of clothing, the dazzling development groups of stylish young people started appearing and flourishing, claiming their uniqueness through clothing styles as pronounced as they are varied.

The advent of the Internet and social networks in the 2000s further reinforced the rise of new clothing trends governed by very specific aesthetic codes.‍

Youth now chooses to focus on the most trending clothing styles of the present time, those that they most often come across in modern streets: the indo-chic style, the dhoti style, the fashion style, the romantic style, the bohemian style, the sportswear style, the casual style, and the vintage style.

4 best tips for looking stylish

You’ll surely find out what you like or what not but you’ll need to think about styling it better. Before you start looking for your style of dress and mastering its more “technical” aspects, here are our 4 best tips for having style naturally and attracting compliments like a magnet.

Tip #1

Know thyself

It’s not me who says it, it’s Socrates, an old Greek friend. The more we know about ourselves, the more we are able to tell others through our clothes. What do you like? What are your musical tastes? Are you more shy or outgoing? What do you prefer to wear? How do you want to be perceived?

It’s time to do a little introspection to define your tastes and desires. Objective: to gather as much information as possible about yourself to find THE style that suits you and in which you will thrive on a daily basis.

Tip #2

Dress for you

I want you to repeat this advice to yourself every morning while you choose your outfit for the day: “I dress for me! “. Yes, I know, it’s not always easy to disregard the gaze and judgement of others. But once you have managed to free yourself from this useless mental load, believe me, everything will be better!

According to owner of Albeli Saree Shop– “Dress according to your tastes, wear clothes that make you happy and that give you self-confidence, never think about what people will say, and I guarantee you that it will be felt on your look, your face and even down to your gait.”

Tip #3

Don’t blindly follow trends

To have style is not to be trendy. Well, if you understood that, you understood everything! Just because you’re wearing the latest pant shape, hottest colour, or branded head-to-toe doesn’t mean you’re stylish.

Far from it… Style is more subjective than that, it’s a look, an attitude, an obvious feeling that makes sense when people look at you. If your style matches your strong inner self, then you don’t need the latest fashion fad that everyone covers. You are you, and that is enough.

Tip #4

Never imitate, get inspired!

There’s nothing worse than silly, mean imitation. Tell yourself that what looks crazy on someone, will not necessarily have the same effect on you. Yes, it’s cruel but that’s how it.

On the other hand, nothing prevents you from taking inspiration from the look of an influencer who caught your eye on Instagram, or that of a super well-dressed girl that you passed on the street. The main thing is to adapt this look to your style and your personality by picking only a few key elements.
